Tunze DOC 9004 Skimmer?

Look for Tunze in the Sponsor Forums. When did you install it, 24 hours ago? I think time is all you need. The watery effluent isn't anything that isn't already in your tank. See what Roger says.

Update: Installed about 5 hours ago and is already pulling out some skim. Seeing some solid particles.

Though when I put my arm in the tank to pick up a fallen snail, the foam went all the way down and no more froth. Is this normal?

I'm not sure what is normal or not? Mine has been set up for almost 2 days now and I still can't get it to operate properly I don't think. I'm looking for help with it but I'm almost ready to throw it out the window. My cup keeps over flowing and I can't get any skimmate all I get is a mess and a ton of micro bubbles building up because I have to keep the air screw almost closed so that it doesn't overflow :/. Very frustrating

@Tristan it's totally normal for the foam to collapse when you put your hand in the tank as oils on your skin affect the surface tension of the water.

@jamesbog283 are you adding any sort of additives like aminos or anything? Aminos in particular really make mine go nuts. Also you might want to check that everything is connected properly inside the skimmer. Sometimes parts can get dislodged or unattached during shipping.

Don't give up! You will be pulling nice dark nog like this in no time.

I have been putting a capful of colony in once a day. I will take it out and open it up when I get home from work today. I'm new to this stuff so unless an issue is blatantly obvious I wouldn't even know what I'm looking for. But I will look for sure! Thank you.

Before you go to the trouble of taking the 9004 apart I think we have the culprit. Baterial additives can definitely make a skimmer go nuts. ATM recommends shutting down your skimmer for 4-5 days when dosing Colony.

I took it apart anyway and I found a rectangular piece that was in the box and fit under the impeller. I put that in and the micro bubbles stopped now I have to figure out the overflow problem and the upper cup filling up with water within 2 min.

@jamesbog283 I'm fairly certain it's the Colony. If it were me I'd discontinue its use while the 9004 is breaking in. It'll settle down soon enough.
