I’ve been eyeing this refugium light for awhile, finally bought one! Weekend project.

I have a $30 amazon light now, it works. I like the fact the tunze is waterproof also!

I love the Eco-Chic. For our Reefer 250s, it's an absolutely perfefct light for the v3 sump stock refugium. Here's a link to how I installed mine:

i Run an AI Prime Fuge over my refugium with this light pointing up from the bottom. My chaeto floats like a 6” mat on the top of my waterline, and I have Calurpa on the bottom of my fuge as well. It’s almost like two layers. I think it works great

I’m between this and the Innovative Marine CheatoMax. Still not sure what all the different is between the three Tunze models.

The 8831 is for refugiums the 8821 is for smaller soft coral tanks or freshwater planted tanks!

That looks great in there, I've been following your build and somehow missed the post on your sump and the refugium light!

How is the light working out for you having it placed on the bottom? I have some rock in my refugium so for now I can't put a light under the chaeto.

It works great! And is causing tons of growth. play with it a bit

Got it installed! Time to see how it does.

I've been running the Tunze Ecochic in my refugium for 3 months now. I love that there is no light spill into the rest of my sump. It has been working well so far, this chaeto started as a ~1oz bag of almost nothing that Adam threw in with a battlebox and has grown significantly under this light. Overall I'm happy with it. I may a second light underneath the chaeto at some point, or add something more powerful above and move this one underneath.

It's not the most powerful light and it spends very little time at it's max output. This isn't surprising given that it's rated to throttle itself at 77F. Tunze says 7w-9w, but my Apex is showing 8-10w.

Now that it has been almost a year how do you like it?

It didn't have the spread I was hoping for, really great light and if I had two I believe it would have worked great!!

Thinking of getting one of these as a waterproof light is a selling point. Is the outer magnetic piece also waterproof?
