can some please explain to me the mods available to increase flow on these?

mine seem to lose their "umph" after about a month of running and have to be cleaned. and one that i've had replaced multiple times doesn't feel half as strong as the other one.

pics and examples of what to cut would be much appreciated. i saw the mod thread over on RC.......but i really don't have the time to read through the entire volume of posts....

IIRC, they just cut out every other support rib from the shroud.

i did hear about that one, but i dont like it as it compromises the integrity of the entire shroud IMO. (makes it more flimsy)

i think is saw something where people cut out something on the inside of just the front covers.

what hypertek ^ said

the circle thing restricts the flow and is very easy to tear out with bonecutters

when you take it apart cut the circle part that sticks out.

yup, thats what i was thinking about. any idea on how much to cut out? or just cut out a little bit at a time until you find something you like?

i cut mine flush with the curvature of teh globe.

Same here. Works great! the only problem I have is that when I restart them sometimes the impeller spins in the wrong way. I just restart it and it works fine.

actually, there is a pretty cool mod to fix that......i haven't tried it yet, but will do it sometime soon.

get a zip tie, and fix it like this picture (looking into the inside of the front cover)

(i think this picture also shows what the inside part dremeled out looks like)

when the impeller spins backwards, it comes out and will hit the end of the zip tie, when it starts turning the right way.......it will not hit the zip tie.

How does this mod increase the flow?
If it really works, wouldn't Tunze have done this in the first place?

it increases the flow by opening up the flow, shortening the distance it has to travel and making it more direct.

Its about double the flow. IMO Mine is Alot more powerfull. If they work for ya now when cleaned expect them to be twice as strong and maybe a bit too much for ya, But ya have sps so they would welcome the flow. It sends a strong flow across a 5 ft frag tank.

I'd like too know more about this also. I have a pair of them, got any links

Don't have any links, but I will say that it has at least doubled the flow out of mine. It's an awesome mod. I recommend it to anyone looking for more flow.

I did the mod to cut out the inside flange, as well as shortened the snout about 3/8 in. I've read benchmarks that match up the 6045 and 6025 identical after the mods - same motors. When you shorten the snout, you don't have to do the zip tie trick, as it comes in contact with the guard to reverse spin, and this mod provides a wider flow. Love the mods.

Where can you order an extra shroud piece, the front piece? I think I'll be doing mines soon.
