Tunze or Apex atk

Im trying to decide if I should get rid of my tunze and get the apex atk.

looks like more redundancy with the atk.
I don't have either, but what I use is a spare dosing head on a doser for top off. I also have a bucket for gravity top off with a float switch for other tanks.

I had the atk and hated it. The pump died in 2 Months, the unit takes a lot of space in the sump and isn't visually appealing.

Tunze has since upgraded their pump and is more compact. If I were to choose, I would get the Tunze.

IMO keep the Tunze. I've been using Neptune since the Aquacontroller II in the 90's mostly due to lack of better options. IMO Neptune stuff is unreliable and poor quality (especially today). I've been using the Tunze 3155 for the past 10 years w/o issue (well my first died after about 8.5yrs). With Tunze you've got timed auto shutoff, optical sensor, mechanical sensor, alarms and you can control on/off power from Apex. It looks like the only thing Apex has is a second optical and fill IQ which I don't really trust vs. timed shutoff (same with Redsea). Other than Tunze the new one from Redsea looks promising even with the fill IQ.

Yeah i have the new pump

Conundrum is this. My ato resirvoir is in the garage and tank is in the house. 32gal of water pushing down onto the pump creates a siphon. I just did this and wasn't thinking. Thank god i wake up early. And yes I'm an idiot.

This was last night. :frowning-face:

Like others have indicated, I’d go with the Tunze rock solid performance. I have two 3155’s in operation now, one since 2005, replaced pump once long ago and the other for about 7 yrs no issues. Yes, they can make some noise when adding water to DT, but not an issue for me. I prefer the rock solid reliability.

I had the same issue. I originally created a 12v extension cable to use the ATK but it failed on me so instead I bought myself the Innovative Marine Hydrofil and plugged in a dosing pump running in continuous mode to the AC plug. That way when it calls for water, the pump will just pull from a water line I ran from the mixing station up to the tank.

I have a better solution I'm working on because it's not the quietest solution out there, but it gets the job done.

My reservoir is in the basement and my tank is one floor up, so I need a solution that can run 25ft w/8ft of head pressure. A dosing pump is the easiest fix.

If you really have to change ATO, you could consider Red Sea.

Ya, it's a slick-looking product for sure. I wish these products had an option where the tank design is such that the reservoir wasn't in the same area as the tank.

If you are using apex for monitoring and control other things, I will go with apex atk. Mine between running for 2 years without any issues and I know exactly what water level is in my sump.

I’ve had both and always had issues and errors with the Neptune. Tunze is the way to go.
