I just added the Tunez Osmolator 3155 auto top off system last night. Things were working well until about 3 am this morning when we were woken up by the "high level" alarm. Haven't quite figured out how the optical sensor works or why it seems to think my tank needs more water even when the sensor is submerged. Has any one else had problems with this unit?

The alarm means your water level is too high.

I believe it goes off when the normal float switch is activated.

Yeah, the float switch works wonderfully. It's the optosensor that seems not able to detect the correct water level. The pump will fill way above the level line and cause the float sensor to activate and disable the pump, fortunately before my tank overflows. I'm wondering if the turbulence of the tank water might be affecting the sensor. I have a power filter that seems to gush water from its return.

Yeah, it could be the turbulence.

You could test it out in a bucket with various levels of water to make sure the optical sensor is working.

I had this same problem and after trying what Tunze requested, I ended up sending it back for a new one roger at Tunze had me clean it with hot water he said they come with a film on them that you need to use hot water to get off try washing it with hit water and dishwasher soap, like Palmolive

The float is there to alarm you the water level is too high. How's your ato set up? When the alarm turned on, was there rodi still being fed into the tank?

Could it be that your ATO is creating a siphon when it starts and can't stop? My reservoir is a 33 Gallon trash can and it sits next to the sump, so I couldn't have it pump into the sump or it would start a siphon. The sensors are in the sump, but when my tank needs water I have it feed into one of the overflows since they are higher than the top off reservoir and won't create a siphon.

My wife is a genius. Apparently the water level in my tank was too high to begin with. My wife pointed out in the instructions, it says the water level shouldn't go over the bottom of the optical sensor. She pulled out the extra water and now we haven't had any problems. I guess it pays to read the directions (and have a good woman around) :p

You don't have the float valve and optical sensor on the same magnet? Usually if you set it on the same magnet it will never give you issues.
