I have a new tunze osmolator which runs for about 10 seconds when powered on no matter what (even when the optical sensor is entirely under water). It functions normally otherwise but this startup fill has cause the float valve to be triggered a few times. Pretty annoying. Is this normal function? Thanks

Yes. Normal. I wouldn't think it would activate the float though. So you have both sensors on the same mounting magnet?

Okay good. yeah, I had the optical pushed all the way up for the tightest tolerance. I'll just have to be more exacting with my water changes. Filled a little too high which caused this a few times now.

I guess 10 seconds can be a big deal for a small tank. You can adjust the flow rate in the Osmolator so you might want to turn it down.Even at full speed, in 10 seconds, I don't think an Osmolator doses more than a cup of water.

I just separated both my sensors to two different magnets. Really, the float is the backup so make sure it's above the optical sensor as a failsafe and is dry.

Normal, for this unit.

If the short fill at startup is too much, you might adjust the delivery speed down. I was using my Tunze ATO on a 60g cube with a very small return pump area, and had to turn the refill pump all the way down to prevent problems with this startup process. When I moved it to my 150g system, I had to turn it back up.

I think my problem may be more than just the start fill. I left the unit off over night to allow time for evaporation to lower the water level below the sensor. When turning it on this morning it blew right by the optical sensor and triggered the float switch even still. I've washed the sensor in hot soapy water and there are no micro bubbles. I do have my ATO pump flow setting turned up so maybe turning that down will give the sensor more time to react. The amount of times my backup float has turned off the system is a bit unsettling.

The float needs to be raised. To allow for the 10 second stream of water and handle the slight raise in level...but when I read your post you as seem to be referring tonne 10 seconds at actual start up when you power on the unit....behs the question why would the unit ever be turned off?

So I don't have to listen to it beep at me for 20 mins while I do a water change with pumps off (sump level raises).

Yeah its normal. PITA on AIO tanks when you want to turn the pumps off to feed or something.

as was noted earlier, you need to go into the Osmolator controller and adjust pump speed. I had the same problem for my IM Fusion 40 and adjusted the red knob in the controller to approximately 10:00 position. This puts the range at about 8 when the factory setting is at 12.

When I contacted Tunze regarding this issue, the response from Roger at Tunze was very quick and resolved my pump speed issue.

He also suggested that I make sure that the distance between the optic sensor and safety float is the maximum. The optic sensor slides up and down on the magnet mount by approximately 1/2" which allows for fine tuning.

I can't say enough about how quickly Tunze addressed my concerns.

I had this issue when doing water changes, I used to turn it off. Now I leave it on, drain water from sump - float is triggered and water is well above optical sensor. I don’t drain as much water as I’m putting back. Fill sump and let system run for a few minutes, take a cup and get a couple cups of water out of the sump to trigger ATO. At hah point I pour a cup back into sump.

Took me many months to figure this out, I almost went back to my jbj ATO. Since figuring this out it’s been flawless.
