Wondering if this thing can only be set up if the sump is above the water reservoir. If so, are there any ways around this?
Here's my setup. Top tank is for RODI water. Tank is directly above sump.

....Not really sure what you're asking. Why would the sump being above or below the reservoir matter? There's a pump that's meant to move water from point A to point B, doesn't matter if its's above, below, or beside.

Yes it does matter. If the sump is below the reservoir, then it can create a siphon.
 
The return line just had to be above the reservoir to avoid siphon. I put mine in the overflow of my display do it goes straight to my sump.
