I'm not sure what exactly happened. I heard the ATO pump screaming and that usually means the pump is dry. It's incredibly loud to not notice. I thought it was odd because I just filled the ATO container a few hours earlier. No way the tank need that much top off. I knew something was right. I immediately checked the floor and sure enough. At least a containers worth of water in the floor.
I checked around the tank where it could be leaking. I noticed that water was coming out of the silencer that attaches to the airline tube to the pump. There is an adjustable knob to control the amount of skimming. The piece usually just hangs slightly over the edge of the tank. For whatever reason it was siphoning out water from the tank and dripping down the side. There has never been any water in the line before so I'm baffled as to why all of a sudden water coming out the end of the silencer. I've had the skimmer better part of a year now and this is the first of this issue.

I have not had this problem with mine yet. Some how the line had started a siphon caused by a difference in pressure. Had you preformed any other task's on your tank that day?

No. All that was done was an ATO container refill. I also took photos. Perhaps this is the way for the tank to say she's photo shy.
If that were the case, it was a significant increase in pressure to cause water to pass through the line over the top of tank and out the silencer. The line sits probably a good 4 inches out of the water. And I have no idea what would've caused that.
I'm glad that I moved the electricals off the baseboard and up higher on the wall. If I had not done this...we would've had some bbqing going on.

One thing I have learned in keeping tanks for 52 years.
Anything is possible. I always try to think of disasters that could happen or have happened in the past when setting up my aquarium. But there is always something that will happen to trip you up. [emoji3]

I agree. My only mistake is having the silencer hang over the tank and that is now most certainly fixed. It was very frustrating because I haven't had any issues with the tank itself in quite sometime. Everything was working smoothly; no cares. And then this happens.
52 years!
