I just started to look at the tunze since I downgraded my tank and should most likely sell my bk 180. Are these skimmers solid performers and at the premium price wpuld you reccomend them?!

I have a 9002 and I am very happy with it except I am severely under skimming sine I am running heavily stocked. I am considering a 9011 but have also considered bk. Let me know if youb are interested in selling.

For a 40 breeder, you should be fine with a 9005/6, could even use a 9010. If you are patient, you should be able to get a great deal on a used one.

Are these older models? I see 9004 and 9410 for smaller tanks on tunzes site; I am a little confused by there designs, however, those designs are very efficient.

The 9004 is their brand new nano skimmer. The 9006 is the smallest of their full sized Comline skimmers - good up to 100 or so gallons if the tank is going to be overstocked....bigger if you're going with a moderate load. Great for an all-in-one tank design, can also deploy to your sump. 9410 is their needle wheel skimmer - good up to 150-180 or so.

Any of those could be a reasonable choice for you depending what your setup is and if you plan to upgrade to a bigger tank where you'll wish you could take the skimmer with you. I will also say that if a future tank upgrade is a bigger concern, I think Tunze recommends the 9011 over the 9006 as a little better value, especially if you're going to run it in-sump and not in-tank. But the 9410 is probably even a better value if you're definitely running a sump - seems it's come down in price at only $338.

They are very direct and honest about their products, so I would further suggest that you email them at the address on their website, or drop them a line on their vendor forum here on R2R with any questions or for their suggestions.

Good to see this feedback. I like reef octopus but it's nice to see there is another option.

I have a Tunze 9002 and I was very happy with it for a while, but it's a little difficult to put back together after cleaning. If I had it to do all over again, I'd never take it apart. I'm sure the larger ones are awesome though.

Thanks for all the great info; I guess i will be sending them an e mail.

My reef octopus was ok but problem prone; I love the pumps but the overall designs could be better.

Tunze tend to be more efficient and thorough in their design which hopefully is going to be a nice product
