Tunze wavebox and Acros

Anyone still use these?

I’m pretty old school when it comes to reefing... thinking about getting one. Am I just living in the past?

This would be for a 60x34x21 tank. I am learning since the tank is a little short it makes the whole flow thing a little more challenging. Seems like a wavebox could help.

Also is the constant on and off of the pump noisy?

I am getting one for my Rubbermaid tub. I won’t which size is best for a 100 gallon tub? Been a long time since I played with one of these. The flow on them is unmatched though imo.

No I have a lot of other powerheads. I wouldn’t use one for stand alone flow but it could work I guess.

I had one years ago on a 115 gallon SPS tank. I thought it was great. To date, I haven't been able to get a similar effect using Tunze powerheads and vortechs. I don't remember it being noisy, though. I do remember thinking it was a pain to tune/adjust. A wave box is great for supplemental flow, in my opinion. I think the prevailing wisdom at the time was that a wavebox provides good supplemental flow, but you still need other powerhead-like flow.

I think I got tired of having a box in my tank, so I got rid of it.

It's neat to see the motion and polyps/tentacles swaying. I think the visual impact is more apparent/stunning when you have coral with tentacles (e.g. LPS) unless you have particularly shaggy SPS. If you're using a mix of powerheads, the wave box certainly isn't necessary. You know this already, though. It's definitely great for getting extra flow in hard to reach areas. I'd say if you already have the wave box, then definitely use it and see how it goes. Just food for thought.

When I setup my 300DD I installed one and had a nice wave. The amazing test was I put a bunch of coral frenzy on the opposite side of the tank and the movement from there till it made it to the wave box was amazing. Unfortunately my Frogspawn did not like it, so I sold it. I use Tunze and MP's, and nothing will move your water like a Tunze Wave Box

I think what I find the most appealing about them is they add a lot of energy to move polyps around without being directional. Its not going to start making a coral lean to the side from too much flow.
