I've had this Turaki for about a year and a half, grown from a 2 inch frag and had been pretty hardy. Couple weeks ago I noticed a small amount of what appeared to be a small red velvety patch of algae at the base of one of the main branches, which I've not seen this algae anywhere else in the tank. I removed it with tweezers and as expected there was no healthy skin beneath it. Within the next day the whole branch died but the rest of the coal seems unaffected.

That being said and is hard to see from the picture because of the angle, it appears that there is some necrosis happening and spreading outwards from the original spot. I'd hate to lose all that growth from the past 1.5 years but chopping this thing up and cutting out the dead spots before it gets worse may be the way to go?

Nothing has changed in about 8 months. This particular piece tends to catch debris for me which I'm thinking was the initial cause, but I'm just wondering if there is anything physically to do to it to stop it.

If it doesn't stop then I would think my only option would be to start cutting.

Had same problem as you with a shurasonoi but damaged area was very limited and I use superglue to stop it ,but ......I don't know if is a good suggestion

That actually crossed my mind at one point, might be too big of an area to successfully and accurately do. I'll keep an eye on it for a few days and note any changes.
