Hey all,
Question about my Turbo. I couldn’t find an answer to my specific question, so I’m making a post. I’ve had it for about a month and a half or so and all has been well. About a day and a half ago it fully retracted (trapdoor fully closed). I let it be because it’s retracted from time to time. But after observing until now, it’s like way up in its shell, more than usual. I was like “shoot, is it dead?” So I pulled him out, sniff tested, and it doesn’t smell. In fact, I just checked again, and it seems to be reacting a bit in being moved.
However, my cleaner shrimp is all over him now, reaching its little arms all up in the shell. And I noticed the snail is expelling this like brown goo/poop-looking chunks of material. I noticed because I happened to look over and saw my cleaner shrimp have a big chunk of something that it got from the snail. I was like “oh man he DID die!” So I carefully pulled out the snail, but to my surprise it’s still retracted back in its shell, and reacted a little bit to me pulling him out.
For now I put the snail in a little tub with my tank water, just in case something’s up with him. I’ll be out of state for a few days, so I was just going to leave it in there just in case it actually is dying. The last thing I need is a dead snail sitting in my tank while I’m gone. I do have the shrimp and a Halloween hermit as well, but I don’t necessarily want to rely on them taking care of a potential dead carcass while I’m away.
Any idea of what might be going on? Sorry I don’t have any pics, that’s why I’m trying to be as descriptive as I can be. Thanks in advance, and apologies if I don’t respond right away due to travel.
