Turbo Snail Sitting on Sandbed

I got my mexican turbo snail about a week ago from my lfs, and it immediately found a crevice in my rock and didn’t come out. A few days later he was on top of the rock, and in attempt to make him do his job I stuck him to the glass. He was on there for a while and when I came back to check on his progress, he was on the sand bed not attached to anything. I picked him up and he is alive (moving) but won’t attach to anything.

Is he dying? Should I take him out?

I wouldn't worry about it. Mine are weird like this too. The less you move it around the better. They go nuts for a week and then play dead for a couple days.

That's not to say they can't die, but the behavior you've described is normal.

I’ll leave him alone for now. I’m only worried if he were to die it would trigger a big ammonia spike since it’s in a 15g nano.

Mine usually stay on or near the sand bed during the day and then start moving around at night. Have you looked at night to see if they’re active then?

Check on it daily. If it's moving each day it's probably alive.

It should be ok.

I took him out of the tank and he does not smell and is moving, placed him on a more secure spot on the rock but he’s not attaching to it or going in his shell. He’s just sitting there sticking out of his shell. I guess I leave him alone and wait for morning.
