So about a week ago, my wife called me at work and told me that one of our turbo snails had climbed over the top of our aquarium and was crawling down the outside, and that she watched him go a little ways, turn back around and go back into the water. I was a little skeptical, but then this morning I went in to check on my tank and saw this:

That's the only picture I took, but another one was right behind him as if they were planning an escape together.

I've seen em climbing on the trim of my tank before, but never seen em climbing down the outside of the glass.

You should get some nerites, turbos don't know the first thing about the word "escape"... I've had mine end up on the floor and I know other people who've found them 15-20 feet away from the tank xD

At work the ner would be 20ft away on a wall the floor a desk he came home to,my 57 found him 40ft away in the kitchen one day. He died the day the cat made him a toy

I would make sure they have enough food. They maybe looking for the fridge.

build a wall:D. Hopefully he dose not make a break for the fridge.

Seriously though the two things that will make those snails abandon tank is lack of food or too warm of water.

i have 1 snail doing it to.only one. the water is a balmy 77.8 and there is alga a plenty in the tank

Just put 2 in my tank JBJ45. Both want to escape! It's an open top so I may find them on the floor in the morning. Trying to combat the "new tank" out break of diatoms. Thought these guys would do the job.
Temp is fine, but my salinity is a tad high -- that may be a factor -- not sure. I did acclimate them but they may not like their new home :(

Temp is fine, but salinity is a tad on the high side. Was hoping these guys would take care of my "new tank" diatoms.

Sorry for the double post -- did not know I was logged in on the first post. :(

Turbos, and especially nerites, live in tide pools and the like. They're very used to being out of the water. It may even be healthy for them to be out sometimes.

I've found nerites (from reefcleaners) several feet outside of my tank, twice. I think I found them in a day or so of them emerging. In each case, i put them back in the tank, and I'm pretty sure they were fine. (shell was nowhere to be found after an hour or so. AFAIC, a healthy snail is one that appears and disappears all the time, so I count such a quick disappearance as "live").

Good to hear someone else has a similar issue.
I just wish these rascals would get off the glass and eat the diatoms on the sand bed.
