Hey there R2R landians !!!

I have 2 tanks im thinking about building a scrubber for. And would like some first hand advice on how to do it. Seems that not many people are using scrubbers anymore......

Main would be my 75 gall reef. Sps and lps. I was thinking of feeding it off the drain line. Would that work or should i invest in a dedicated feed system? Aslo once built should i keep the skimmer running ?

Second is the 15 gallon softy. No sump. So i would do a mame type overflow with the feed going soley to the scrubber. And Having a collection area to pump the water back up.

Whats wrong or ok with my ideas ???

ANyone feel free to chime in !

There a guy on eBay. Is sellin hang on glass upflow turf scrubbers for nano tanks. Searh hog1 algae scrubber

Nana reefer Did you see that red head trying to sell those t-5 lights ?? Hehehe That lil upflow did look kinda hoaky But hey if i woulda won it id use it in our 15 gall tank!

Your trying to build a ATS without a sump? Ouch. You'd need a HOB sump to do it, or something similar if you want it kept out of the tank. It would also have to be big enough for a large collection area for the tank size. If you got it big enough, you could stop skimming.

Yea but mabey i could make the ATS be the sump..... I have a wierd SKINNY tank in the basment i could use..... Hmmmm Or i have a HOB fuge i could mod....

Either one. the up flow is alot less stressful on the mind for not flooding, as you usually have the container above the tank and the flow from the return just goes back. The sump can usaully be bigger so you get the biggest bang out of it. Using a Overflow Box and a return pump, theres definately more involved with the Sump. Have you looke at the SantiMonica ATS?

Haven't fully ran it yet....definitely a bit of a water fall effect till you get algae covering it...I was using a single screen and went to 2 with the new sump. Once screen is covered in gha the noise really quiets down. I also have the screens about a half inch into the water so it's not "falling" into as far.

Thinking about doing a scrubber tee'd off my main drain that would feed The "skinny" tank and drill the skinny to have the water drain into my sump. Thinking of either drilling it on the side or the bottom..... Theory would be if i did a side drilling i could eliminate splashing.

OR would i be smarter to hang the scrubber under the tank and have it drain into my fuge..... Witch one would be better?

Also I would like to keep the sump clean.... Any chance some gha will fall off into the sump ? Thats the only reason for thinking about doing the separate container lit up. I could have the drain go into a filter sock before the main tank.

Anyone thoughts ?

When I was running a single screen only time it would really say "fall off" is when I didn't clean it soon enough and the gha was ripping from the roots on the screen.
