Going away in a few months for only like 4 days. Thinking about turning my skimmer off during that time period. Good idea? Bad Idea? Doesn't matter? Also may do more or larger water changes right before we left and after we get back. Thinking it's one less thing to go wrong while away(Overflowing, snail getting in the intake etc.) Thoughts?

My advice would be to do as little different right before you leave than possible. Make sure your ATO is full of course, but if your worried about skimmer overflowing just turn it down. I would want the increased O2 exchange. I also would just focus on the big WC when you get back, and rather do things more normal until you leave. Might as well stay tried and true rather than change things up and then not be able to respond if something is different/wrong.

I agree with what jent said, if you really want to do a water chance I would do it like 5 days before I leave and I wouldn't change anything. When I go away I never turn off my skimmer.

In my tank I regularly don't touch it for 4 days at a time. If I typically change water on Sundays and empty skimmate, aside from feeding it's pretty much on cruise control. that being said, I wouldn't change my routine because I'm not around. I would be more nervous about ill effects from my changing of technique than a 'what if' scenario.

jent has good advice I'd just turn it down slightly & wc once home.
