Ok so I want to turn my built in auto top off tank into a refugium. I also don’t want to drill any holes in the glass. I want to know if One my idea will work, and Two if the ATO tank will still function as it was intended.

Here is what I want to use:
The ATO tank
Some above water light that will function for Chaeto
A overflow system that is meant for a nano

It simply would just be the ATO tank using the over flow system to get water into the sump, with a light above it.

Inside I would put Tisbe Copepods, Chaeto Macroalgea, and lava rock. The lava rock is a cheap easy replacer of the ceramic ball things. This would be used to house beneficial bacteria and for the copepods.

Please respond!

Depending up on the size/strength of the pump used to get water up into the fuge, you may also need to add in a small powerhead in order to get enough flow through the chaeto.
I've got a 525XL and tried several times to turn my ATO area into a fuge (check out the first build thread in my signature if interested). In the end, I pulled it out because I couldn't keep the chaeto alive longer than a month or two (for various reasons).

Just trying to get responses from other people to hear others opinions... Maybe someone who had more success with the Chaeto...
