Turning T5ho fixtures into a retrofit

I have 2 aquaticlife t5ho fixtures 48in and i just don't have room over my 55 gal and i want to add another set of t5's can i take the 2 fixtures apart and mount the bulbs caps and reflectors (new ones for each bulb) in my canopy or is there a problem with doing that? It would open up alot more room for me

You can do it. They aren't using water proof end caps in the unit though, and you'll need more wiring to relocate the ballasts.

I just actually finished doing it. Turned out great rerouted the ballast and wires through the slats in the canopy. I replaced the end caps with the water proof plastic ones that cover the ends. It made the lights alot brighter and more directed par. Now they have individual reflectors which is a major plus.
