Turtle's Deep Blue Sea

Fedora is dying... no saving him from this point. He looked fine yesterday. :(

You need to put something named Murphy in your tank. He already seems to live there!

No "four letter word that begins with s"... that's the new wrasse. Murphy the ruby long fin wrasse.

Zoas are all closed today. All of them. Closed.
I think it's the H2O2 they don't like.

Your zoa's closed at 1ml/10g? Mine would close for a very short period when I did it but wouldn't stay closed. Are you sure you aren't overestimating your water volume?

35g display, get rid of 10 gallons for rock, sand ect, so we're down to 25g... sump holds somewhere around 15 gallons so that's back up to 40 gallons... pretty sure I'm close to 40 gallons total water. I'll dose for 30g tonight tho.

What are the tank dimensions? I couldn't find them when I looked. And.. how thick is the glass and how far from the top is it filled?

20"x20"x20" Deep Blue Professional cube.
Water is 1 3/8" from the top.
Glass is 5/16" thick.

Sump is a Eshopps Nano Cube
14"x14"x16"

So uh, acro frags are toast. Bleach white skeletons. Forest fire digi looks the same. Birds nest is pale, but its been that way for a little while. German blue closed, possibly dead. Zoas and sympodium are all closed. Gonna give them a scrub since they are all closed up. Acans and trumpet seem to be fine. Lobo is still a brick with no fleshy material and spikes sticking out of it, the same as when I got it.

I'm done with H2O2... it's killing just about everything except my fish. They're all fine.

That is crazy.... I've never seen anyone have problems dosing H2O2 other than zoas closing for a few minutes and polyps retracting.

This tank is cursed... ;Sour;Punch;Rage;Vamp

Looks like I'll just be walking around window shopping at Reef Dreams... no use wasting more money.

For future reference...

I'm calculating your tank holds 27g of water, maybe a little less depending on the height of the water in your overflow section.

The sump should hold 12g of water.

That puts it right around 39g minus sand and rock. I would guess your actually water volume at 32g-34g. Not far enough off from your 40g estimate to cause this kind of problem.

The water is only an inch lower in the overflow than the main display. Not much volume lost there.
I think I would use 32g estimated from now on. Aquarium volume sizing is just so poorly done. For instance.. my 187g tank actually holds 166g of water max. I wish they would advertise the actual volume the tanks hold instead of calculated volume of the outside dimensions.

Well, I scrubbed all the rocks of algae/dinos. Whatever this stuff is. I have maybe 2 TBSP of carbon in a bag floating in the sump... all I had left. The skimmer is back in service to pick up anything the filter sock and carbon doesn't. I had the drain open on the collection cup. Nitrates have fallen a bit so I reduced the chaeto reactor to 12 hours from 14. Fiji mud is supposed to be here by the 7th, possibly sooner.

Dino’s don’t seem to be picked up by skimmer.

Red Sea advertises actual tank water volume... the only company I know to do so. I haven't checked into Elos actual water volume, but I suspect they go off of external dimensions as well.

Just checking to make sure, it wasn't an alk spike. Earlier this week alk tested at 8.9, today it's 9.1... well within the error range of the test.

Speaking of, the card says the accuracy of the Hanna meter is "+ or - 0.3dKH + or -5% of reading @77°F"

So does that mean 0.3dKH AND 5%... 5% of 9.1 is 0.45+0.3=0.75 accuracy. My water coukd actually be anywhere from 8.35 to 9.85? Is that right? Or is it 0.3dKH or 5% or reading? Because or would mean a range of 8.65 to 9.55, which is still crazy when people say not to let alk move more than 1dKH a day.

I'm done messing with things. If it lives it lives. If it crashes I'll sell it all. I'll keep the ATO full and feed the fish, but this tank is going to have to teach itself how to swim or drown. I'm done... it's broken me.
