Hi

Do tuxedo urchins detect air and avoid it?
Can they be easily removed from the side walls?

I have a CPR HOB fuge, I turn it off daily to feed my fish. The water line drops of course.

I wanted to know if I can get the urchin to drop if he is attached to the side wall.

It is also open top, they smart enough not to go over? There is about 1” from water level to top.

Thanks

I have 2 in an open top tank with the standard plastic rim/trim and they’ve never left on me. They’re sometimes temporarily exposed when I do a water change if they’re up on the side glass but hasn’t ever been an issue.

If I have needed to move them for some reason they haven’t been difficult to get off the glass.

I have two, which often get exposed to air when I do a water change doesn't seem to bother them, they quickly move down back below the water line. I have a closed lid so can't be sure but I don't think they would voluntarily venture out of the water and over the rim of an open top.

I have had a couple over the years and they have never left my tanks. I am not 100% sure on the air question, but they do get exposed in the wild and live through it.

I moved mine once doing some rock work, didn't put up much of a fight then motored about after setting it down. I have no clue how it keeps that shell on its back given the way it move in and out of the rocks

Did you pick the urchin up with bare hands? Did it release easily from its place?

A.

Are tuxedos easily handled? Is it advised, any tips?

A.
On the rare occasion I need to move mine they come unstuck pretty easy. Just be gentle so you don't damage the tube feet, I grab and move it side to side very slightly, like I'm really gently shaking (like a vibration motion) it and it usually let's go if that makes any sense.
