I have a biocube 29, 2 years old, parameters all wnl. Recently I battled gha, that’s under control now. Then cyano, treated with chemiclean and now gone. But now I’m left with two issues: one is a brownish algae that waxes and wanes with my lighting (see pic one), and two is this stiff gray-green stuff growing up out of my sand (see pic 2). I thought the latter was just detritus, but when I tried to vacuum it up it literally is growing up from the sand. Any advice?

The tubes easily break up if I stir the sand.
No on the gfo (I honestly don’t have a great understanding of gfo). I have an Intank media rack with poly filter on top, purigen in middle, and chemipure elite in bottom.

You don’t see little arms sticking out when you feed or at night?

Some of the granular ferric oxides , iron, require rinsing befor use or they rust. I’m not sure if the chem Media you are using use a gfo or aluminum or need rinsing.

Downs the brown stuff have a texture? Slimey dusty etc?

I would lean toward slimy, def not dusty.
Chemipure does need to be rinsed first which I always do.

No arms sticking out tonight of the grey/green stuff.

What kind of lights are you running?

The brown is Dinoflagellates

I’ve looked at a lot of pics of dinoflagellates, and I never seen the bubbles or “snotty” appearance with my stuff. It’s always smooth, sometimes a long single string coming off it. I should prob just try to look under a microscope and check, they’re supposed to be easy to ID right?

I would say the 10,000k being new is the cause, may try to cut back and hour on the 10,000k
