I use a Seneye reef device in my sump to measure temp etc. In the last few days my PH has dropped from 8.2 to 7.9 on the device. Not too sure on why the drop, nothing else changed, temp 25c, SG 1.026, ammonia 0.001.

So being inquisitive I reverted back to double check using my Red Sea PH test kit, drop of this, shake of that. PH comes back at 8.2.

Who do I believe, the Seneye chip has 20 days left and was fine until now?

Any thoughts on this please?

Thanks

Paul

I will get blasted for this :) I am fine with that though lol I wouldn't worry much about chasing a PH number ,, everything I have read says doing this will drive you up a wall ,, keep your Alk & Calcium stable ,, test your Nitrates & Phosphates ,, keep those under control ,,, be happy and enjoy your tank :)

Ok, then what do they both say after 6 hours of light....that should help justify...

Do they both rise .2.......or does one rise and the other not.

I am always Leary of probes and glass chips.....if I don’t clean my probe regularly, I get BS results.

The Seneye has risen to 7.92 but not done a beaker (muppet scientist Beaker) test. Will do that tomorrow as out for the evening now.

I’m not a fan of pH test kits as there is no easy way to confirm proper readings. I’m also not convinced all manufacturers even know to check and see if a kit they designed for freshwater works properly in seawater. The color change endpoint of dyes can change with salinity.

It’s not good to have blind faith in hobby companies. They need to earn their reputations, and some are just a fail.
