Two hand caught blennies - South Florida

Selling two blennies I caught by hand in Jupiter, FL. They have been fully quarantined for 2 months. Very friendly, active, and the first fish to eat in my tank.

Im only selling because my bio load is getting too high in my tank.

$20 for the pair.

Local pick up only in Parkland, FL 33076. Sawgrass expressway getting off at coral ridge drive.

Are you allowed to return them to the wild? Up here in Ontario, Canada that's not allowed in case your tank is carrying non-native nasties (bacteria, parasites, disease, etc) that have entered the fish and could now infect the native waters and inhabitants when you put the fish back. Once caught (with proper licenses of course) there is no going back. You can't even catch them from one water system then immediately put them in another (ex: caught from one stream and put into a neighboring stream) in case there is some nasty in the first stream that is not in the second.

I realize every area and country is different in this regard so I'm just curious.

I’ve got one of these. Bought it at an LFS in Panama City where it was an extra from some divers. Very cool blennies!! Always inquisitive about what I’m doing.

For aquarium fish, it seems that most states have a distinction between catching marine creatures for personal use or commercial use, restrictions are usually more lenient for personal use (contact your local fisheries on that though). Some states even require a license to even sell marine creatures. You shouldn't take advice from strangers on internet forums about laws, because frankly most people state misinformation in terms of the laws on these forums (basically people will tell you what they think rather than what they actually know) and laws change over time, you would be better off just contacting the commission yourself.

Somehow these fish will be safer in a reef tank than the ocean.....
If plastic doesn’t kill them, a freaking Cat 5 Hurricane will...

Taking fish to sell does require a commercial license, which are almost impossible to acquire here in South Florida.

Lying about having that license and then releasing fish back into the ocean is irresponsible and leads to reputation hits for this hobby.

I think capturing a couple blennies, within slot limit, for personal use is fine. If later on you need to rehome them that is also fine.

On a side note, Molly Miller Blennies are borderline not reef safe. While not actually eating polyps or coral, large males will bully almost any fish smaller than it, they love flipping things over, moving things, they will aggravate all types of LPS polyps, zoanthids, they will sit on SPS, they kill snails like its a national pastime.. Buyer beware. Also despite it not being illegal to own one of those or possibly to even sell it. Shipping it may actually be illegal. Just look into it with FWC. You can also call and talk to someone, they are good at supporting the public and answering questions like this.

As an aside, Moly Miller Blennies are one of the only know predators of Aiptasia.

I’ve had mine for several months now with smaller fish, never had any issues and he has not bothered any of my corals. There are no aiptasia to be seen either and I know I put contaminated frags into this tank I’ve got a big boy, he’s pushing 4” and he’s in with a 2” geometric hawk and a 1” clownfish. All three seem very happy and the tank looks great. The blenny has a lot of personality and always greets me and follows me around the tank
