I have been doing some research and found some people get better growth on coral doing two light cycles a day. But they seem to be on frag tanks and not main DT. Don’t want to stress fish out at all. Was thinking. Maybe run my whites as normal but have blues do two light cycles. Would whites being on between blues cycles let the coral do what they need or does it need to be no light at all?

I know the zooxanthellae in corals do photosynthesis for 5 to 9 hours a day. So some corals may do OK with 2 light periods in a 24 hour day. But IMHO some corals would be stressed out.

I also think that if 2 light cycles per 24 hour period were really good for corals, a lot more people would be doing it. I wouldn't waste my time or feel good about putting some of my coral, anemones or fish at risk. These things developed the DNA over thousands of years that have on a 24 hour day with one light cycle. I just don't think I know better.
