I decided to buy some Biopellets and run them in a IM reactor to help lower nitrates and phosphates. I haven't started to run them and would like to know If there are any tips on using them and if anyone else runs biopellets and what thoughts they have on making a difference. I do run a Tunze 9001 protein skimmer which I've read is a must. I plan on using half the dosage to start and slowly increasing the amount to what is suggested. Just would like to know everyone's thoughts: both successful and disaster experiences. Thanks.

I ran it for a few weeks only. My only suggestion is to start with a very low dose.

I learned that less feeding, lower count of fish will help you with Nitrates very quickly. As for pO4, I ran GFO for a few months and now reading undetectable.

I am at a point where I do not run a skimmer anymore. Best of luck.

I don't use that brand, but when I started up my reactor I took it slow adding only 1/4-cup of pellets a week until I brought it up to what the manufacturer recommendation was for my size system. I also plumbed the output of my reactor directly under my RO POV skimmer and that has works great ever scenes.

definitely start with a smaller amount and then work your way up. I've seen friends tanks stripped of nutrients and their corals started bleaching. They had to remove the excess biopellets and then the corals came back.

It will be hard to plumb in my setup. I have a IM Nuvo 30g so the only way would probably using flexible hosing to run out and over my baffles into the chamber where my skimmer is.

That easy, huh. Still new to the reefing scene. I will try that when I set it up. I kind of was thinking of all the other equipment I've got hanging out of the chambers and stuffing another hose in there would just add to the chaos. You think I could reduce the output to a smaller diameter hose for a cleaner and more successful install?

Funny you should ask that, I did the same and had an issue as the flow needed to tumble the pellets was reduced when I installed a smaller diameter hose so they stopped tumbling... you should still try it but, you might have to ramp-up the pump.
