Hello my friends, I just got a $1/Gallon 29 Gallon tank from Petco and I want to get the VorTech pumps. I have a plan to upgrade to 55 Gallon later too.

My question is, since the MP10wES is rated at Flow up to 1,575 gph and tank size up to 50 gallons. Will two MP10wES (left and right) gonna do the job? Or you suggest just one MP40wES?

If your going SPS dominated I would do 2 MP10Wes if upgrading to a 55 Gallon 1 MP40Wes would work out perfect for all setup types of Mixed reefs options... But thats just my opionion

I used 2 mp10s on a 90 gallon with great results, so 2 mp10s would be best. One mp40 would work too, but the end of the tank might lack a little flow, they reach in about 3 feet IME

i agree with the above if your upgrading to a 55g later i would get 2 mp10s

According to the Vortech calculator, EcoTech Marine Flow Calculator, 1 MP40 is too much for a 29G. The slowest rate on a single MP40 is 1000gph of flow with the high-end being 3200gph. If you are only keeping SPS, that is fine, but you would be limited to only running between 20% (slowest it will go) and 30% (when sand would start blowing around and SPS reacting adversely.). Two MP10s are more appropriate as together they have a minimum possible flow of 400gph, with a high end of 3000gph.

1 MP10 mounted on the end of the tank, should be more than sufficient to create the flow you desire. Buy the one now and get another when you upgrade to a 55. Just my opinion, so take it for what it is worth. I have 2 MP10s on a 60g cube, and have them cranked down to about 70% each, which seems to make everybody happy.

Welcome to the forum! I have a friend that has two MP10's on a 55 and he has them at about 50% on Reef Crest mode. If he wanted to really slosh water around he could. :)

I put my mp40 on my 29 just too see it in action. It worked out pretty well and even held at full throttle with no sand kicked up. I do have thick sand though. If it were me I'd say 1 mp40 on the back center of the 29 and then later get another one for the 55. but also trust me...don't get a 55. at least go to the 75. anyone with a reef in a 55 will most likely agree. I hated mine. by the time I put rock in the tank there was pretty much no sand on the bottom in front of the rocks. I have a 120 now and LOVE it, but understand that its 2x the size of a 55. (not mathematically...lol)

in my 29 now I use 2x tunze 6025's with only one on at a time. I would recommend that over vortechs.

i agree with everyone and say 2 mp10wes but if you were to get an mp40, dont waste your money on the wes and just get the es if you go that route
no point in having wireless if you only have 1 pump
i have 2 mp10s on a 12 and i think its just right

Wireless is good for multiple pumps yes, but also for marrying with a Radion LED fixture, or an aquarium controller. If any of those are in your future, then wireless is a good option.

agree that you should go with 75g later. 1x MP10wES is good for 29g now. When you upgrade, you can add a 2nd MP10wES or MP40wES, the 2 pumps don't need to be the same. Most reefers when they have 2x MP40s on a tank, one is set much stronger than the other.

I still only run 1 mp10 on my 75 gallon and I don't have any problems for flow. 2 would be best but you can get that later, I would just get the mp 10 unless you're planning to upgrade to a 120 or so.. Just my 2 cents

They only make wireless mp40's. The mp10's are the only ones that have the option to be non wireless.

I heard mp10 won't hold in 75 due to glass thickness...do you ever have problems with this?

For my 215: 72" x 30" x 24" tall, do I get 1 MP60 or 2 MP40s? Went to their site, but I'm still uncertain. Mixed reef.
