Currently I have two snowflakes and I love them so much, I want to add two more clowns. Will this create any issues? Tank is a 40g breeder and I've only had the snowflakes for about two weeks. Only other fish are two chromis with a yellow tang on the way.

Thanks!

From what I have heard, unless they are very very young, changes are no. Especially as they get older, they fight for dominancy and who gets to become the alpha female. We have a 55 g reef and I fell in love with a "naked" ocellaris. I was hoping they were young enough to add to him to the mix but my LFS said "no dice" and wouldn't let me buy him until AFTER I had ANOTHER tank set up. In the beginnings of our tank, we came across some bad live rock that gave us a bad hair algae problem. I was hoping a Yellow Tang would help fix the problem but I was refused by several places in there area. Even when very small, the yellow tangs need way more room to move around to be happy. Hopefully you can find a larger home for the tang :-(

If you want more personality to your tank, I recommend a blenny, like a lawnmower blenny, star blenny, etc. They are funny to watch and are great at keeping algae under control. Another good addition for your size tank that have really fun personalities are clown GOBIES! They can also spawn in captivity. You can also go for the ever-covetted watchman goby+shrimp combo. The shrimp digs the hole that the goby protects. It is a really entertaining symbiotic relationship.

Good luck! Hope this helps!

I agree with melissa,The yellow tang needs alot more room to swim around,There very very active swimmers. As far as the clowns iv seen people keep 2 pairs in larger tanks with no problems 100gals and above,I think in a 40 gal you would have some fighting going on.They would be to close to eachother in such a small tank.I would add a few more chromis there awesome fish and look great in a little school,And they tend to kill off one another when kept in pairs of 2.

Since they are still very young, do you think it could work? Thanks!!

And to respond to adding more chromis, they would NOT have it, I have an abusive pair that beat up and shun the other two I had. Lol

Adding any more clowns will end in death, the clowns will eventually fight to the death. People on this forum tend to get upset when people say this, but that tank is to small for a yellow tang. Some of the suggestions for a good algae eaters were made in a previous post.

I myself am setting up a new 55 gallon tank. Currently all of my marine life are in a temporary 29 gallon tank while I get my new 55 dialed in. I have two clowns that I paired myself about a year and a half ago, but I too would like to add a couple new clowns. I have seen tanks with 20+ clowns in them, all young of course, but doing more than fine.

All that being said, my plan was to purchase the two new clowns and first acclimate them to the temp. tank water. Without adding them to the 29 gallon temp. tank, where my pair I'm sure would have NONE of my adding new clowns, I plan to proceed by adding MY clowns to the bucket with my NEW clowns and acclimate them to my new 55 gallon all together. This way, my hopes are that they will all be fine once in the tank. If they form two pairs that would be wonderful, but if not I am hoping the two new clowns would be young enough to just tag along with the pair without a problem.

If this sounds absolutely mad SOMEONE please let me know, haha, thanks.
