I've been reading two part is used in equal amounts equally. I'm new to dosing and trying to understand the concept. Does that mean you dose two part in equal amounts always?

My tank uses more alk than calcium, so I dose more alk. All depends on your tanks consumption.
Testing should tell you what you need.

No,...you dose each part based on your tanks consumption and typically you end of dosing more of the alk. part than the calcium.

To simplify the process you will test alk.and calcium over a period of time until you know the amount your tank uses. You will then dose each part either manually or automatically testing less frequently adjusting each to meet increasing/decreasing demand. There is a third part, mag., that may also need to be dosed based on how frequent you do water changes.

There really isn't a short cut to this process, you have to test until you know how much and then continue testing to confirm.:)

As stated above by Robink and Mark75, you will probably find yourself dosing more alk than calcium but you have to test in order to establish how much of each you need to dose. Also, anytime you change anything with your tank such, as corals, you will find that your dosing will need to be adjusted accordingly.

To add to this. What happens when you water change will your dose for the first time after that increase to get back to normal levels. How does that work? I've been looking into 2 part as well or kalkwasser. It gets a bit confusing.

Doing water changes with a salt mix higher in alk./cal. effects tank alk./cal. very little as long as the water change is a small percentage, such as 10% or less system water volume.

It is still a good idea to know your levels pre/post water change and adjust dosing accordingly.

It all goes back to testing! The more often you test the more accurate you will be at dosing.:)
