Hi all,

Would it be possible to split one eb832 outlet into two with something like;

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BKX6202/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Q9B9Cb3FW6PV9

I’m looking to power 2 sets of 2x24w t5s but don’t want to have to tie up two outlets on the eb832 with them. The overall load on the 832 is quite low maxing out at about 4 amps with everything running.

Thanks for any help!

Agree with above, you'll only have around 96 watts on an outlet that's rated for 840. You'll be just fine

are you saying each outlet on an EB832 is rated for 840 watts?

Per Russ - on the Neptune website:https://forum.neptunesystems.com/showthread.php?17312-Max-Wattage-usage-on-Energy-Bar-832

The max load for the EB832 as whole is 15A. At 120VAC, that's 1800w.

Specifications are published in the EB832 User Guide. https://www.neptunesystems.com/support/docs/

That's correct for the total load of the entire power bar but each outlet is individually rated at 7 amps or 840 watts.

PS on the other Neptune page it says something different:
  1. WARNING – DO NOT EXCEED ELECTRICAL RATINGS:

The maximum load rating of each individual AC outlet is 7 amps; do not exceed this.
The total current/power draw for all active outlets must not exceed15 amps or 1500 watts, whichever is less.

It also says this:
Do not use an EnergyBar 832 for other than intended use. The use of attachments not recommended or sold by Neptune Systems may cause an unsafe condition.

I would ask Neptune to make sure - I agree with everyone else its probably not a problem. Some of those adapters are cheap - if you want to plug 2 things into one apex outlet - I would get a better 'splitter'. i.e. a power strip - higher quality - but that's just me:)

Instead - I just plugged things that didn't need the apex into another power strip. Or I would have bought another EB832. I would not assume its a good idea to plug multiple things into one outlet.

If he would have asked about running two 400w metal halides on one outlet I would definitely not recommend something like that. I completly agree that you shouldn't push the max ratings of any electrical device. The part about not using any accessories other than Neptune's sounds pretty standard for liability purposes but all I can say about that is I wouldn't have a problem using one of those splitters in my home if I'm only running around 100 watts

Yep - most of there reason I posted the 'details' is because - I thought it was interesting - I never knew the 'limits'. On the old unit I remember that 2 of them could use higher watt devices - the others could not.

Higher quality is always better when it comes to electrcity

He’s running 48 combined watts. He will be fine.

Well - actually its 96 watts... But who's counting (2.x 24) x 2... all I was pointing out is that Neptune doesn't support it. And thats also a cheap adapter - I would go with something of higher quality.
