Two Schools of Keeping Reef Aquarium?

Hello everyone,

I have put some time into this, and it seems like there are two main schools of thought for reef keeping.

1) QT (Intervention)

2) No QT (Natural)

From there it then splits into all sorts of different methods.

For examples, i have created a tab on the google sheet in my signature called "Care Methods".

If you navigate to it you will see these two schools with build threads underneath them. I am still adding threads, and some I haven't divided into either school yet.

I'm curious what the people of r2r think about this.

I'll post a screencap of the info on the sheet later, to make it a bit easier for people.

I think we tend to stick with what we've had good results with. I've been in the hobby a little over 20 years and have certainly made some changes to how I do things but my techniques/beliefs are largely the same as they were back then. I avoid the QT process, simply because I believe the best chance for the new join is to go in to the most established tank I have. I firmly believe that fat, well fed fish, are very resist to disease/parasite introduced to the tank from the new join and even if they do get something, will likely pull through.

I am curious about the mortality rate of fish that enter QT vs not.
