Two skimmers

Anybody have success running two skimmers. I KNOW supposedly one outskimms the other Just wondering if u do what is the reality of it. I might add a second skimmer on a FOWLR system. Thoughts experiences anyone?

First question would be why would you need 2 ?
Is one not sufficient ?
What size tank and what are they rated for ?

Couldn’t the same be achieved with a larger single skimmer dialed in properly?

It is possible to skim too much with a skimmer too large for the system and not be efficient .

I like too try NEW things. I use currently a ASM G@ does well but thinking of going for a Bashsea skimmer as FIsh in 125 are getting bigger. They eat like hogs and produce lots of waste.

Manufacturers ALWAYS overate skimmers and All depends on bioloads every tank is different.

Do you have a UV unit? Or a sulphur denitrator? Algae scrubber? Bio-pellet reactor? Because my first impression, since you like to ‘tinker’, is to add on something you might not have yet. On the other hand, 2 skimmers on a FOWRL... why not? It’s only money, so experiment to your heart’s content. Best wishes!

I've seen it work fine, but I really don't see a point on systems under several hundred or thousand gallons in volume. You are somewhat limited on skimmers for those size of systems, and I imagine most people that run 2 do so for redundancy issues, if one needs maintenance or repair.

I have 2 for 400 gallons with lots of fish
Big ones. SRO-5000 and a 36 inch Lifereef.
The Lifereef is usually used as an ozone reactor. When the ozone is off it skims quite a bit though. I get about a gallon of skimmate a day.

I do not remember who, maybe jda, who runs 2 skimmers.
One is a venturi. I believe he said he gets a different color skim from each skimmer.
I was thinking of 2 but space is limited on my 120's sump.
If your heavy in then heavy out is the way to go.
I went from a T9410dc to a T9430 dc skimmer and my no3 and po4 dropped back into my desired range/ no3<5 po4<.1.
I was also able to stop carbon dosing.

I use to run one internal to the sump and one external. they ran perfectly together.

I believe if two skimmers are pulling from two different areas of water, they run fine.

Two sitting side-by-side, not a good use.

Sooooo....One day I was deep cleaning the external one and the cylinder hit the concrete floor after I dropped it.

Craaaaaaaaaaack....up the whole side of the external. I was severely urinated off.
