I figure a type of algae also...but i just can't find one that matches this one...lol. It flows in the current and the longest piece is roughly 3/8". It did look like my yellow tang may have been nibbling it a bit tonight but that could have just been items on the rock around it.

It depends on the type of lighting you're using, and the actual color of the tissue. Looks like it could be algae, but it depends if you have critters like your clean up crew all over it.

I have 2 t5s1 coral life and 1 ati coral blue. Also a led strip that I keep on blue only right now. I only have green and brown polyps, a leather and a Kenya tree that seem to like lower amounts of light. Under room or natural light they look light grey or very light brown like the picture. Clean up crew seems to ignore it, blue and red hermits, and a variety of snails. Also a lawnmower blenny...all seem to leave it alone
