Tyree Miami hurricane or cotton candy?

I bought this from JFSC. I had a local guy come over to look at my collection and he is saying that it looks more like a cotton candy chalice? I bought it when it was just 3/4 of an inch, it's beautiful just want to make sure I didn't get the wrong thing!

Hard to tell from the picture, dark and too much blue. The both can look similar at a fast glance. There is a big difference. There are a number of cotton candies. Each with a different color morph. They have generally have pink eyes, but can vary. No color changing in eyes and what gives them the name sake is the puff out to twice there size. Like cotton candy.

Miami Hurricane or Cabbage Patch, depending on which mother colony it came from has a steel blue body. The eyes are the main difference in the cotton candy. Miami eyes start out yellow and turn a deep orange. A colony with several eyes will look like a rainbow. Since each will be going through a color change with about a half dozen shades of yellow and orange. It will also get green edges around the eyes, this is not always visible depending on how open the eyes are. Miami also does not puff out like cotton candy. Has more of a smooth appearance.

The chalice is definitely a steel blue and smoother chalice. The eyes are what's getting me, they all start as a yellowish pink, then now are so bright of a orange they almost look pink. I bought it as a tyree Miami hurricane, has anyone had them maybe turn out to be different colors.

That is relative for sure. They are not as cheap as a no name or a stunner, but $50 for about a 1" square with about 5 eyes is about $10 an eye. In the named chalice world that is good price.

I have over 50 eyes on it, so is 500 dollars a good price for it? I'm clearing out my tank

no not for that piece anymore. sorry to say.

As mentioned not even close. Many chalices demand high prices when they new. But once the market is flooded with them the price falls. Some chalices are very slow growers so the market does not get flooded. Miami hurricane is not one of them.

You can get an idea on the price by web searches. When they become more common they are sold by the size of the colony not by the eye. Not sure of the size plug but for a 1" plug you may not see three digit price. Sorry

The size of the colony is over 8x8
