Like the title says. Do you pvc cement the u bends inside the overflow box? Or do you let the pull and gravity hold it in?

Don't glue it in, if you have to ever do maintenance it can easily be removed to be cleaned :)

Its a choice, and to clarify,
Are you specifically talking about the U to the riser pipe alone?
Or are you referencing the entire U riser all the way into the bulkhead?

Personally I glue the U onto the riser, but not the riser into the bulkhead at the bottom.
This way I can remove the U and the riser to allow my hand/arm into the overflow for cleaning, maintenance or retrieve an animal that has gotten in the overflow box.
YMMV.

Yes I know the u will get cemented but wasn't sure about the riser. So you two answered the question perfectly. So cement all the parts but the pipe that connects to the bulkhead.

Plumbing is alot more work than you would imagine lol. Might have to do soft pvc for return lines didn't plan well. We will see.

I’d recommend against glueing any of the pvc in your overflow box. That way if you find you made it to short (noisy waterfall) or to tall (potential salt creep and splashing outside your tank) you can adjust it easily.

It’s not that bad once you get into it. I recommend getting a ratcheting pvc cutter. It makes the process so much faster than trying to cut everything with a hacksaw.

Well I already glued my main drain together but I will leave the rest unglued. I wasn't cementing my open line until I figured out water height I need but makes sense not to glue any as gravity and suction will hold then together

Gravity and suction will hold everything together, and anything in the tank or overflow box doesn't need to be water tight so I would only cement what you absolutely have to, being able to pull each piece apart would be very helpful for cleaning.

Well I will respectfully disagree with most of you.
I find the U bends glued to the risers make for easy removal.
Gives a solid handle to get ahold of and twist and turn.
I have pulled the U's off the risers and played hell getting the slime covered risers out.

Yes everything needs adjusted for height sound and all but once done its done forever.
The cane is so much easier to get hold of and manipulate from that point forward.
But again its all a choice.
