hey everyone. im new to the hobby and have done some research with no avail, my question is i plan on moving in to a reef tank soon. i have a 120g FOWLR, that came with a ugf that is been running since the beginning. 2.5 months. i purchased some jebao rw8 powerheads and want to abandon the ugf. i have 130lbs of live rock. but i do t want to disassemble the tank to remove the ugf. can this be done?

Poseidon, you won't be able to remove it but you can simply remove the stand pipes in the corner and leave it in the tank. This will make it a plenum which has its own advantages and disadvantages. IMO your better suited to take the time and effort and remove it completely.

UGF = Under the Gravel Filter

I can't see how you could remove the UGF without taking everything out.

@Paul B runs a successful UGF tank....I believe in reverse.

i thought about going reverse but that would require buying completely different powerheads. since i have already spent $200 on jabeao rw8's id rather not go that route. my only concern is the life ang longevity of mu soon reef. also what advantages and disadvantages are there of a plenum?

But aren't the jebao for movement in the tank? You'd have to have different ones anyways that hook up to the standpipes right?

correct but they also give the surface mivement that oxygenates the water. so i would have no need for the ugf anymore.
