Okay I just love my fireworks clove coral. green hair algae is taking over the colony. I tried hydrogen peroxide with a syringe to kill and I’m constantly manually yanking it out. I’ve carbon dosed and used beneficial bacteria. There is a small HOB refugium. gha is not anywhere else in my aquarium. It’s smothering my beloved polyps. Help! Any suggestion?

Clean up is emerald crab x2, four types of snails. turbos, certh, and two other. About sixty plus snails

you probably need good contact time with the h202. I would take out some tank water in a container and dose the whole colony for a few minutes. Discard water in container afterwards

I have about twelve hermits. I see them eating detritus but not algae

If possible i would find the source of the issue, but to take care of any existing the best cuc i have found for this is an urchin. Which we have for sale and personally my favorite is the blue tuxedo! ~Shaun K

It won’t hurt my polyps? Should the peroxide be diluted?

Is this a new coral/rock?

Usually when I see a single rock with problem algae, its because its new to the tank and came from a higher phosphate environment - and the available phosphate/lack of corraline/etc is what's fueling the algae.

Sometimes the best way to handle this is just manage it for a while and it'll fix itself. I'd suggest just pulling the rock out, scrubbing the hair algae with a toothbrush, give it a good rinse in saltwater, and throw it back in. Do it again if it gets bad again.

they will strip the rock down to white and are able to get the smallest spores. ~Shaun K
