Ugh - Skimmer overflowing after using coral putty

Okay so I used some coral putty & the skimmer has been unhappy. I have an ATO. Skimmer is in the sump
I already:
1. Opened up skimmer valve (will dial back in once resolved)
2. Emptied collection cup several times

Should I:
1. Raise skimmer in my sump?
2. Fill my top off tank with saltwater for awhile to keep salinity stable?
3. Other suggestions?
4. Please suggest a epoxy that does not do this if there is one. I use super glue gel & epoxy sandwich method to mount frags.

If it was working fine before I would just leave it and if you can let it overflow in the sump until it calms down. Or ‘turn it down’ for a while if your happy with that.

Funny things skimmers, if they don’t like something in the water they go crazy over skimming!

I usually just turn mine off for half a day or so then test it to see if it still overflows.

Agree just turn off the skimmer if need the aeration just add an airstone in the sump while its off.

Which epoxy did you use, and how much? I use the D&D stuff and my skimmer is unaffected; but I use it judiciously and have a huge tank.

• Used sandwich of Loctite super glue gel & Instant Ocean coral epoxy.
• Tank is 300 gal
• NYOS Quantum 220 skimmer (rated up to 500 gal)

Probably used more epoxy than I should have. I mounted all corals from shipment to reef rock because I have some absolutely huge Turbo snails in the tank now. I was trying to keep the corals from getting flipped or knocked over as easily.
Skimmer is doing better today than yesterday.
Is this the epoxy you use? I like the rock gray color.

A lot of epoxies (and filter socks) mess with skimmers and cause them to overflow. Easiest is to jsut do like others have suggested and turn it of for a few days.

Skimmers actually run on a pretty fine balance. The surface tension of the water determines how stable bubbles are and ultimately the level of the foam. Anything that alters that will affect how they run.

I usually wet-skim out 5 or 10 gallons through the overflowing skimmer and replace with new salt water. Works like a charm, and is a lot more effective than a standard water change when trying to calm down a skimmer.

I just remove the skimmer cup, leaving the skimmer on for a few days..
