How long should I expect the uglies to last? I'm asking because my water is pretty cloudy and doesn't show any signs of improvement over time. I am running carbon and I've read mixed thoughts on that.

Thanks. When you say let the bacteria populate, what are things I should do to avoid thwarting that?cloudy water usually means you have a bacteria bloom. Best thing to do is wait it out. the tank will clear on its own. Allow the bacteria to populate.
Thanks. The bloom has been going on for a month or so. No3 is at 5-10ppm consistently. Po4 varies from .05-.17Bacteria blooms in water are typically a young tank problem. Usually they are harmless but they may aggravate some soft corals. You also get them in fresh water.
The blooms (milky in color) are caused by having excessive nutrients in the water column but not having enough mature bacteria in rocks and substrate to out compete them. The bloom will clear on it own usually within 10 days. Water changes have no affect. UV sterilizers will clear them fast but its kind of a waste of money given the bloom will go away on its own.
No, and it's still going on. Even clouds up / accumulates on the glass with the lights off at nightDid you solve this?
