I set up my Waterbox cube 20 since May this year. Currently, the tank looks far from good.

Anyone knows how to improve the tank?

I am a beginner when it comes to salt water reef tanks (before only had sweet water tanks ranging from 12 - 24 gallons).

My parameters are as follows.

Temperature: 80° F

Ammonia: <0.1 ppm

Nitrite: <0.2 ppm

Nitrate: <5 ppm

pH: 8.2

Salinity: 1.025

For maintenance, I perform a 10% water change once per week. Apart from that, I clean the glass, move the sand around so it looks white again and clean the filter sock. On a monthly basis, I also take out the complete filters et cetera and wash them.

My plans for the tank are to add more coral first over the upcoming months (mixed reef beginners coral). I do not want to go too quick. First goal is to get the tank clear in terms of water and to have the rocks and sand more clean. Also, my current corals (anemone and toadstool leather) are not doing too good.

The anemone could be struggling because the tank is still new. Usually I tell people to wait to get anemones until six months out. This allows the micro biome to be more established in your tank before adding an anemone.

My store advised me to buy an anemone with two clown fish based on my water levels… is my coral still alive… based on my other post… how to get my anemone back in good condition?

Those parameters are good.

New tank syndrome or the uglies is normally a lack of diversity because system was started with dry rock & substrate.

Get some diver collected live rock to bring in diversity of micro fauna & fana.

With those parameters I would be bring in soft corals to allow them to bring in their biodiversity.
