I get home from work today looked at my tank and saw this, I’m guessing it’s the start of ugly phase, what should I do?

only if it was rinsed first! personally, no I wouldnt do that....but that's me.
Hmm. I stir up my sand regularly to allow the settled detritus to enter the water column and subsequently be filtered out. I’m the days of deep sand beds there were anoxic areas where toxins could propagate and if stirred up would release them. With thinner sand beds that are agitated frequently, you don’t get those spots. I have a good amount of flow and an engineer goby that keeps my sand ever changing.

It’s a good prob 2 inch’s deep at most I’m looking at getting a sand sifting goby I was told my tank is too small for on its 40 gallons, is that true?

How did you start the system? Live/dead rock? Generally do nothing and let the biome go through its things. Add fish. Feed fish.
Live sand Fiji pink and live rock and added some bacteria and some beta brine

nothing, as it gets worst add some snails. stick to your weekly water changes and husbandry and it will go away in time.
No fish yet or can I go ahead and grab some fish this weekend. I was going to check to make sure my nitrites are 0 today and my nitrates are above 0. So I haven’t done a water change yet I’ve jus been topping off from evaporation
