Ok im back just picking everyones brains. My LFS says let the snails clean my glass and not to use a scraper

I never got why some people find coralline algae desirable. It's by far the hardest algae to remove from the glass and jams up equipment. Yes it's a "natural" look, but so is green or brown algae, albeit not as colorful. To each his own I guess ;)

I had trouble in other tanks with the Flipper line scratching the glass even when I took the time to ensure no sand was stuck between it and the scraper blade (which is what I used most frequently, especially near the sand bed). On our new tank, it was recommended to use a Great White Plus cleaner (you can get smaller sizes of the same line) along with an Algae Dozer pad from Mighty Magnets which has been a great combo for me personally with no scratches thus far. I haven't had coraline form yet on the glass to test it out but from what I've heard from others, they had no problem with that attachment. I'd also agree with @Donovan Joannes that it's always easier to get these things early before they have a chance to take hold and make it more difficult to remove/scrape!

I have found when I don't clean the glass often....the snails tend to stay on the glass and never move to the substrate or rocks as much.
That is only 1 reason I clean the glass probably 2 or 3 times a week, it takes less than 5 minutes if you don't let the coraline build up. The frequency of cleaning correlates to how "exhausted" my carbon/gfo reactor is. The fresher the reactor media...the less I clean the glass! That is my experience after 3 years in the hobby anyway.....
I love using my Tunze Care +. Fast cleaner......never a scratched glass and all the way to the substrate clean!

You can also just run up to Home Depot and get a 4" plastic paint scraper and a pack of replacement blades for about $12. I rinse and then replace blade every 2 or 3 cleanings to avoid any kind of rust.
