Ultimate power outage protection

How long will these batteries last (not the charge) before they have to be replaced? I use a gas powered generator as my main backup power supply but I'm currently looking for a secondary backup power supply.

Quality 18650 cells should be good for at least 300-500 cycles before showing their age, and overall quality and usability will degrade over time... but there's a lot of factors. They could last upwards of 10+ years if they are taken care of, and since they would be hooked up to a charging system it should extend their life. If they are abused and run down over 80% discharge very fast twice a week, you might get a year or two out of them. In this application I would think you could get your money's worth. There's tests out there that have put tesla batteries over 3000 cycles, too.

Good diy power wall stuff! Should be a cool fun project. Can't wait to see it.

Also used EV batteries are good too. Have a 10kw pack of Nissan leaf batteries myself.

Any updates you're willing to share? I've been programming my Reef Pi and was thinking about integrating a power backup...

Still haven't got everything... I'd like to bite the bullet and just buy some US based parts, but can't afford to at the moment. Sorry to have people curious and not being able to show you!

It's hard finding certain things in US stock right now. Hope stuff gets here soon for you

It seems solar powered houses with battery storage isn't a big thing in the US?

I would have thought with Tesla and new graphite/battery advancements, most houses would be applying this tech.

It definitely is, but with new tech comes $$$. The average house is probably $20k for the solar array, plus another $17k for two Tesla batteries. Prices are coming down, but at this point it's not for the average Joe.

Wow, that's huge $$$ in comparison to what it costs here, around 4x. I would have thought it would be cheaper in the US than in AUS.

England calling, I had a friend that moved to Oz about 10 years ago, inside 2 years him and his wife then bought a solar company out, nice timing! :)
