ultra efficent anerobic protein skimmer aio plenum sump idea

i have a crazy idea, its kinda inspired by lasse's big display and it would be a doozy to build but it could be extremely effective. basically what it is is a overflow on one side that goes down to a plenum, normal stuff right, then it flows through the plenum adding a little upflow to the sand but it picks up the co2 and ammonia and stuff then it goes up into a protein skimmer esque device which flows into a aio or a sump. after it flows through the sump it goes back out circulating the water and also, it sweeps off detritus from a bed of dolomite or crushed coral. its kinda a weird idea but all the equipment would be invisible and i want to build it out on my 10 gal tank i think and i want to experiment with it. im going to use a laser cutter to build it. does anyone know how thick my acrylic needs to be though?
