Ultra high magnesium

Today I tested my newly cycled 90 gallon tank for the first time, for Magnesium. This is insane, but it tested at 2600. Is this even possible, or could my test kit be way off? If it is correct, what can the results be from such a high number?
All other readings are on target, so I am stumped.

If your calcium lvl at 420. Your magnesium should be 420X3. 1260. Are y sure 2600? Can u run a test agian.

I think you'd have too throw a couple extra of bottles of magnesium in too get it that high ,so Are you Sure Your Reading it right .. test again and if necessary take a sample too your lFS and let them test it !

No, it's not likely real.

How did you measure it? You'd need at least two syringes of titrant with most kits.

And no, the specific gravity is not 1.24. Maybe 1.024.

I am going to take a sample to my lfs tomorrow. This was the first time I used this kit, so likely my mistake.
Randy, i did have to use two syringes before it turned colors. Yes, my typo on the SG.

I would not assume a ratio.

Who made the test kit that you used?

Well, it was my API test kit. It measured 1200 at my LFS. Going to purchase a Red Sea or Salifert test.

I would suggest Salifert. Which API test kit? Mg API kit? I've not seen one of those.

My mistake. It was an older Red Sea kit. Salifert it is!

+1 for saliferts .. what salt are you using 1200 is a bit low for mag , you wanna be shooting for 1260-1350 ..

I initially used IO. I just ordered a small bucket of Red Sea (blue bucket, not Coral Pro).

I have found the red sea mag test tests about 200 ppm more then others bit that seems really high.

The directions on the red sea magnesium test are easy to mess up. The first part you add 5 drops total stirring 15 seconds between each drop. But it looks like it says 1 drop on the card. Double check that because it would cause a much higher reading

I definitely do 5 drops with 15 second stir between drops. Still get very high readings.

Hold the 5 drop bottle sideways drop 5 drop real quick and shakes for 20 sec. on saliferts always right about 3x of cal
