Hi all,
Ulva snuck into the main display, what's the best, quickest CUC to keep the ulva at bay?

Tanks a RSR250, so can't do rabbitfish or foxface, and already have around 15 hermits and an algae blenny, neither eating it. Thank you in advance.

It's hit or miss with cleanup crews. I had a brutal ulva algae infestation in my tank. Good news is, it will go away in a few months. I added a Mexican turbo snail and some emerald crabs. I think they helped but not a huge amount. I heard tuxedo urchins do a good job, but I didnt add one because I have too many corals that I dont want getting pushed around.

Once a week get in there and prune as much out as you can. I left the flow on and used a fish net to catch all of it blowing around. Use a refugium with some cheato. You'll beat it even if it looks horrible right now. Keep up with the water changes too.

I wouldn't recommend any more fish. It'll just add more nutrients for the algae. Don't be temped to add a tang in. Ulva really doesn't last that long if you keep at it.

Can you just stay a head of it with manual pruning? I have some in a refuge and its not a super aggressive grower.

thanks for the replies, was trying to avoid putting my hands in the tank, but may not have a choice. I also have emeralds(3), run a refugium with Chaeto, Ulva, and Red Ogo, and run triton, so no water changes :). I guess I may want to remove it all together from the system since it's becoming an issue in the main display.

I never put my hands in the tank either. There are these long plastic gloves you can buy on amazon that go all the way up to your shoulder. It's like $15 for a 50 pack. They work great!

Urchins will make quick work of the ulva. Tuxedo urchins tend to be less grabby with frags. I'd glue down the frags, and get a pack of urchins (we can give you a pretty hefty discount). Can you post a photo of the sump/refugium layout?

Sump layout is the RSR250 triton sump by crystal reef aquatics. It’s packed full of Chaeto, Ulva, and red ogo. How do I get that discount? This is good timing I need to buy some pods as well.

I'm very interested in this as i have an Ulva outbreak in my display - no refugium though. I got the 5280 Pods from you guys a couple months back and injected them into the sandbed - BAM! I have millions of the little critters living all in the sand and rocks now. they tend to come out onto the glass early morning and near lights-out....i love it!

Now i need something to get this Ulva under control - my yellow tang eats it, but he's not keeping up with it so far. I've stopped feeding nori for now so maybe that will help. Any suggestions? Urchins?
