Still new to acros so I may be making a big deal out of nothing, one of my acro frags (twig and berries I believe) has decided to become an umbrella instead of growing outward in branches. Is this a normal growth pattern or is there a possible underlying reason for this?

I know flow can do weird growth, I don't think like this though.
You sure on the ID?

While the growth looks odd, it appears to have two “sprouts” per se and the rest it may be trying to encrust and hitting the edge of the frag plug or rock.

If that’s not it, then my guess is a misidentification of the coral (either by the vendor or perhaps even just crossing it with another in the tank)

Looks like undata which would explain the growth patterns your seeing. These montipora tend to encrust and plate.

It’s not even encrusting on the one edge. It’s just doing this for some reason.

After a quick search through my email there is an email confirming the purchase of a WWC twig and berries acro but it’s old enough that the original frag pic seems to no longer exist.(pretty sure wwc deletes the pics after a while to save on server resources)

Weather or not it’s a miss id I couldn’t say at this point.

Just to throw this out there, my "encrusting" mystic sunset monti after it runs out of rock to encrust onto.
