they've been bothering some of my zoas lately. hydroids?

They will get bad too. Scrape them off now before its too late. I have waited too long in the past and regretted it. Now I don't keep live rock with the corals because of these types of things.

Also another interesting note here. The other early stage of growth for the hydroid is a mini (1-2mm) jellyfish. I have seen them before in my tank. If you see those it might be a bigger issue.

Oh man, not good. I hear they can be pretty tough to get rid of. Good luck

Yeah they can be a real pain. Some species of Hydroids seem to be more aggressive than others. I would say yours are aggressive being the polyps around them are pulled in. Take a pair of tweezers and pull them off. Some species spread fast so I would recommend getting them out ASAP.

yikes!!! didn't know they were that problematic. I have some on the rockwork as well. does this mean I need to take out the rocks and scrub them off too?

I have never had any problems with them, but not saying others haven't. Aren't they filter feeders? Mine always come and go

that's been my experience so far. some days they're bothering the polyps and then the next day, they're gone. some stay a few days or sometimes a week. they have taken a few frags though as I didn't bother doing anything with them. I guess I have to get proactive and start scrubbing off some that are on frags. at least it's easier to pull off with only a few polyps. so far, they only affect smaller polyp zoas.
