Lol, I read this PRO-Reefer XXXXL Ultimate fight here with lot of interest and joy !!!!
@Diesel ,
@Hans-Werner
Ben, HaWe is the Balling pope ;-)
So I actually believe concerning water chemistry he knows what he is talking about.
Hans Werner, my dutch friend Ben, I know it's hard to believe that German and Dutch can be friended ;-) is the most amazing Reefer I have ever met !!! You would have to see his tank prior he kind of started to walk away from very exotic sensitive SPS species.
A true magician when it comes to colorization of Corals. I never saw and believed Corals do exist like this without Photoshop, until I walked in his house. I bought and got a lot of Corals from him for my tank and the beauty he archieved in color, fluorescence and health is truly phenomenal and amazing. Unfortunately I was not able to keep these colors, however I'm working hard on it ;-)
People these days showing up at my house to get some frags, are already stunned by my tank and colors I have achieved, but knowing there is an even higher level of colors achievable drives me further into it.
Believe me, whatever you have seen before even from Eshan, is nothing compared what Ben did with his tank and corals.
Anyways, I'm drifting off here ;-)
Looking at the picture of post#1 I do see:
greenish whitish cloudy water
heavy white bacteria film on surface
inappropriate setup for Reef tank
tank system that might cycled theoretically
non matured tank for the livestock in there
I do smell low PH, lol
So I do strongly believe a combo of planktonic and bacterial issues.
It would be important to know if the tank becomes more whitish through the day, what color the skimmate has, and of course some specific water parameter.
I'm not expecting any advanced info looking at the setup.
Hate to appear arrogant at this point, but based on the kind of responses we all got, I do not think this will lead to a constructive discussion here.
I would recommend (for a start) to install act. Reef Spec Carbon first to reduce nutrients that will help to affect the food chain of both, bacteria and planktonic based material.
And then trying to identify what is wrong with the biology and why it's not working.
If needed some helping bacteria cocktails, or some carbs but that depends on the issue.
The bacterial biology is not mature enough to handle the system obviously, leading to these things we do see at the minute.
Also I expect some design issues, that either a UV, Hydrogen Peroxide Skimmer-Injection, Antibiotics, or any of the "MANY" other methods can resolve on the long run.
