So all my fish have been hiding the past few days and some have cloudy eyes, it's strange though not the entire eye is cloudy, just a spot on the eye which looks cloudy. They also seem to have no appetite as well. Lastly, on my butterflyfish in particular, they have very noticeable large white circles (not ich) which look like discolorations, and overall their color is faded. Anyone have any idea what might be happening or what this sounds like?

Can you post pictures?

Doesn't sound good. Symptoms sound like velvet. I'm not saying it is for sure. Pics would he helpful.

I initially thought velvet as well, here is some background info. My fish have been undergoing treatment with chloroquine phosphate for 3 weeks. I stopped treatment after 21 days due to them starting to look lethargic and no visible velvet symptoms besides that, when they initially broke out with velvet they had sugary spots everywhere, heavy breathing, bashing against rocks, it was obvious. This seems different, I am not seeing any heavy breathing or sugary spots, I will have to post some pics. I re-dosed chloroquine yesterday due to my concerns, I guess this restarts the clock. This is the worst!

Knowing this, it could be a secondary infection from the original affliction. Do you have a second QT? Best thing to do here would be treat them for 10-14days in CP and then transfer to second QT.

Have you checked for flukes?

Where is your CP sourced ?

Some additional info: my initial treatment and current treatment is in my display tank. I have obviously lost all my inverts which at the time was a sacrifice I was willing to make because I do not have a QT big enough to fit all my fish. After the initial infection of velvet, several fish started to suffer from fin rot. I dosed kanaplex 3 times and they recovered from that and were looking great for a few weeks. I also suspect flukes so I treated the tank with general cure on Friday for 24 hours, I ran carbon after 24 hours due to being unsure if the fish were lethargic due to too many meds, and somewhat panicking.

I was re-dosing chloroquine phosphate with water changes and also just adding more to the water every 5-7 days or so to account for potential degradation. I noticed some film algae growth on the glass last week which I thought could mean my chloroquine was not therapeutic at one point, I re-dosed more chloroquine right after. My chloroquine was sourced from ebay, it worked initially but I feel like I messed up in keeping up with the degradation so velvet may have survived. This is an unbelievable scourge.

You are battling a couple things. Even 99.9% Pure CP from an RX source may not work in a display tank. Biofilm degrades it heavily. Therefore you may be better off treating with copper.

Ebay CP may state 99% pure or whatever but there is no way to know for sure.

Is there ANY

Sorry, ANY data about rate of degradation of chloroquine phosphate by the biofilter? I feel like I am in a losing battle here. I was dosing every 5-7 days but I feel like I might have to dose daily or every 2 days to keep up. I didn't realize it degraded that fast.

I haven’t seen data about cp. however, you can measure copper with a Hanna checker. I would get a bottle of copper power and a Hanna high range copper tester. You’ll know exactly how much copper is taken up by rocks, sand, biofilm, etc.

The rate at which it degrades has so many factors. It would vary from tank to tank.

Only way to know for certain would be to do a mock up with the tank being used. Pulling daily samples and sending them to a lab for testing to verify the drop in level per day which isn't really feasible for a single treatment.

If you were QTing fish on a large scale it may make more sense.

Hi! I am so sorry about your fish!! Just curious do you know how your fish got infected? New addition? I am sorry if I missed it, but what kinds of fish do you have?

I believe they were infected from a pair of bellus angelfish I bought and added to the tank. I did QT them and ran them through 2 courses of prazipro but did not treat with copper, they weren't showing signs of any disease and I had also purchased a masked swallowtail angel that I was adding to the tank, I did not want there to be aggression so I added them all at the same time. The next day I noticed small white spots on both of the bellus, I pulled them out and they both died. After that the rest of my fish became infected, I lost a royal gramma and now I believe a yellow butterflyfish.

Current fish list:

2 snowflake clowns
2 zoster butterfly's
1 masked swallowtail angel
1 tailspot blenny
3 pj cardinals
1 foxface

If I lose my swallowtail, that is going to be very depressing.

Wow! Sounds like a great stock list, I totally understand what you are going through! I had a bad run back in June and lost several long time residents. Almost wanted to get out if the hobby, but I hung in there and now things are so much better!

So I am really unsure if it is still velvet. Still no white spots all over the fish, but they are still acting reclusive. The butterflyfish have large white circles on them, does anyone know what that might be? They are NOT raised, and way larger than ich or velvet dots.

Could be bacterial... Could be secondary bacterial issues from velvet affliction.

Can you upload some pics of what you are describing?
