What’s the nicest underappreciated fish on the market now. I just got a McCosker Wrasse and it is an amazing fish especially for the price. I feel it’s underappreciated because it’s cost-effective. What do you all think?

Collection point to destination and rarity decides price. I never see flashers or fairies stay long at the lfs. They are gone before next shipment.

Great looking guy.

I don’t think they are under appreciated, a lot of people talk about them. There is just a limited number of reef safe ones. The McCosker, six-line, and carpente to name a few.

By far the common flashers. This involves;
Paracheilinus cyaneus
Paracheilinus filamentosus
Paracheilinus lineopunctatus
Paracheilinus mccoskeri
Paracheilinus carpenteri
Paracheilinus flavianalis
Paracheilinus rubricaudalis

Now, I don’t own any one of those species but do own what is believed to be a hybrid of two (Although which two has caused a debate haha). So far it’s between filamentosus and flavianalis or another pairing that I’ve forgotten.

I think one of the most underrated fish has to be the sand-sifting gobies. I’ve always had a diamond goby in all of my tanks and he’s the most hardworking fish in the system. Yes they make a mess out of the sand but you should know that ahead of time before getting one of them.

Double vote here. Blennies and Gobies. I’ve got an Orange/Red Spot Blenny and I think it‘s a really cool and interesting fish. Had a Dracula Goby for all of a week before it committed hari kari by jumping (through the mesh no less) onto the desk where the tank was. But would like to get another (less expensive) goby, possibly a shrimp goby to hopefully match up with my pistol shrimp.

I agree with you, I have a school of 5 chromis who are supposed to be green but look more blue, I also have one of those flasher wrasse's and by far he is the prettiest one in the tank and loves posing for pictures too :face-with-tears-of-joy: , I also think anthia's aka wreck fish are very underrated as they are poking their noses in every little nook and cranny they can find and stranger still is the anthia's and chromis and flasher wrasse all 'hang' together in the tank
Makes a school of 9, 5 chromis, 3 anthia's and 1 flasher wrasse, although it is alot harder for me to get pictures of my blue I mean green chromis with my big blue background prefixed for me by the aquarium maker, it has its ups and it's downs the red and yellow fish look great :face-with-tears-of-joy:

Your orange spot will pair with a tiger pistol.

That’s a beautiful paracheilinus carpenteri, you’re lucky that you have one that loves photos… mine hates it.

Thanks mate, he's a recent addition to the tank got him from a place near London, strangest thing is he sleeps 'on' the sand, my yellow coris is diving into the sand every night and this carpenter wrasse just snuggles under the algae magnet on the sand so I can't move it now am thinking of building him a cave from grey d&d putty so he's got his own house I haven't even achieved that for myself yet :face-with-tears-of-joy: .
